Using the alarm

How does a bedwetting alarm actually work?

A small sensor clips to your child's underwear. At the first drop it sends a wireless signal and the wristband buzzes. Your child wakes, stops, and finishes on the toilet. Repeated night after night, the brain learns to wake to a full bladder on its own.

What age is it for?

Alarms suit most children from about 5 years old. There is no upper limit: the kit fits teenagers and adults too, and many older users choose silent vibration.

One kit or the bundle?

The Dry Nights Kit is one complete alarm kit for £79. The Dry Nights Bundle is two complete kits for £139, for brothers and sisters or for two homes, and saves £19 on buying two separately.

My child sleeps through everything. Will it wake them?

Use vibration and sound together. In the first nights many children sleep through any alarm, and NICE guidance says parents may need to help them wake. That is normal and it passes as they learn.

Will it wake the rest of the house?

Only if you want it to. On silent vibration, only the person wearing it feels it.

How long until they are dry?

Weeks, not nights. Early signs come first: waking to the alarm, smaller wet patches, the alarm going off later and less often. Keep going until 14 dry nights in a row, the goal UK guidance uses.

What do we do when it goes off?

Switch it off, go to the toilet and try to finish, change into dry clothes and bedding, and go back to bed. Keep it calm and low-key: it is never your child's fault.

Is it comfortable and safe to sleep in?

The sensor is a small clip on the edge of their underwear and the alarm sits on a soft wristband. No wires run between them. The alarm is IP68 waterproof.

How do I charge and clean it?

Charge it on the magnetic charger during the day. A full charge takes 40 to 60 minutes. Wipe or rinse the alarm and sensor.

When should we see a GP instead?

If your child wets during the day, has pain when weeing, is very thirsty, or starts wetting again after being dry for 6 months or more, see your GP first.
